Raney by Clyde Edgerton

R

Audiobook.  I was vaguely familiar with the name Clyde Edgerton before I listened to this book, and on the basis of that and the enthusiasm of the Amazon commenters, I downloaded it.  The fact that I listened to the whole thing tells me I am easily amused.

It's set in the South in the early 1960s and told in the voice of a young woman named Raney who marries a college librarian.  She begins as a sweet but idiotic person who believes everything her mother tells her or she hears in church.  I guess the story is her movement away from that view, but the movement is barely discernable and she had such a long way to go.  I think that's about all I can bear to recount about it.

Except that unlike the Amazon reviewers, I didn't think it was funny.
