A new feature of Charlotte’s booklog will be the occasional posting about books that sound interesting to read, either from reviews or books mentioned by someone. So, here we go.
The Original Knickerbocker: the Life of Washington Irving by Andrew Burstein. Reviewed in the Post on May 27. The review mentions the Tales of the Alhambra which I liked so much.
Gertrude Bell: Queen of the Desert, Shaper of Nations by Georgina Howell. Also reviewed in the Post on May 27. I have meant for ages to read about this amazing explorer.
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.
The Monk Downstairs by Tim Farrington. A later book (The Monk Upstairs) was reviewed by the Post. The reviewer was much taken with the fact that prayer is a feature of this writer’s books. A romantic comedy with prayer, irresistible. Might be an audiobook.
